Wedding Paper Printing Methods
As the 2025 wedding season is quickly approaching, we wanted to share the different printing processes you will find available to you in choosing the perfect wedding invitation.
These processes range from budget-friendly to higher price points - ensuring that you can find the pretty paper to make your BIG DAY memorable. No worries. Our stationery stylists are here to guide you through each process. [Be sure to keep this email for a handy reference].
Here we go:
Letterpress:
This is the OLDEST form of printing (dating back to the 15th century). Letterpress is a traditional printing technique where letters are arranged on a frame, dipped in ink (one ink color at a time), then pressed into paper.
Digital/Flat Printing:
Think of the fanciest printer possible! Digital images are transferred to a canvas on one pass using lasers, charges and ink. No plate is needed and typically an unlimited number of colors can be printed at once.
Foil Stamping:
Foil stamping uses a combination of heat, pressure and metallic paper, which allows designers to add a bit of shine to designs.
Engraved:
An engraved wedding invitation uses a metal plate to create raised letters on the front of the invitation and indentations on the back.
Thermography:
This printing process (which mimics the engraved look) allows classic designs to be taken to the next level. Ink is mixed with resin then fused with heat to create a subtle raised result.
Embossed:
Unlike letterpress where the printing place is pushed into the paper (or debossed), embossing uses printing plates, pressure and heat to create a raised design. Embossing pairs well with letterpress and foil stamping.
